Smiling Meditation
I want you to try something right now as you read this. Take a moment and relax your face. Let this relaxation cause a slight smile on your face. Believe it or not, smiling is one of the healthiest things you can do for yourself. Studies have shown that smiling can increase serotonin and endorphin levels. These are your “feel good” hormones. It will also allow for the nerve impulses and blood flow in your face and body to improve. Many of us carry tension in our face constantly. This comes from all the negative unconscious thoughts that we are always thinking. This takes its toll on our health and well being. Furthermore, constantly having tension in your face obstructs nerve and blood flow to that area. This means that our face won’t get proper nourishment making it age faster than need be. Since our face carries our thoughts, tension in our face means tension in our body. This tension will cause a blockage of nerve impulses and blood flow in certain parts of the body. This manifests differently for different people. Most people may get pain or inflammation. For others, tension causes their immune system to become weak. Even your Western Medical Physician will tell you that stress and tension weakens the immune system. So learn to relax your face and smile. You’ll be surprised how much this can change your life. You will feel more calm and relaxed in your daily life. If you do this often enough, you will notice less frequency and less intensity of any pain or discomfort in your body. This can be done anytime while doing anything.
