Chronic Sinusitis, Rhinitis and Allergies
Many people suffer with chronic sinusitis, rhinitis and allergies. There can be a multitude of reasons why one can have these conditions. However, many people make these conditions worst by not letting their nose heal. Because we are obsessed with cleanliness in this country, we are constantly blowing our noses. In fact, many of my patients blow their noses much too hard and much too often. If you have any of these conditions, I want you to try experimenting with NOT
blowing your nose as often and definitely not as hard. I always tell people that if you have a scab that is trying to heal you wouldn’t pick at it, would you? Of course not, because you want it to heal. Likewise, when your nose has a history of chronic inflammation, excessively blowing your nose and blowing your nose too hard will actually make it worst. Because of the chronic inflammation, it is easy for your nose to become irritated. Many people have reported to me how much less they sneeze when taking this advice.
Acupuncture, Chinese Herbs, avoiding spicy, greasy foods and dairy with stress management will ensure reduction of symptoms. A reduction of stress will increase the function of your immune system. Other things that will help are a neti pot. A humidifier can also be beneficial because it will allow the mucus membranes to avoid dryness. Finally, you should be careful of inhaling toxins that could irritate the mucus membranes of your nose. Nail polish, nail polish remover, perfumes, colognes, detergents, and other cleaning agents are examples of possible irritants to the mucus membranes of the nose. Be aware of what causes your nose to be irritated and avoid it. The more you pay attention, the sooner you’ll feel relief.
