Acupuncture & Bi-Polar/Depression
Bi-Polar disorder is basically when one has high highs and low lows. Now in my treatments, I focus on keeping the patient more in the middle. What that means is that I work on keeping the patient in a calm and relaxed place. Now if you’ve been working out for a year, and stop for a couple of months, does that mean that you’ll loose the muscle mass that you developed the prior year. Of course not. Likewise, if you stay in a relaxed space, it will be that much harder for you to feel stressed or anxious or down and depressed. Acupuncture with Guided Relaxation will actually allow you to release “feel
good” neurotransmitters. Serotonin, aceytecholine, and dopamine are just some of the neurotransmitters that will be released. When you have these neurotransmitters being released, you will feel much better emotionally. Watching your stress levels, exercise (in the evening), proper diet, and adequate sleep will dramatically help those suffering with bi-polar disorder.
One other thing that I have noticed is that many people suffering with depression live by themselves. We in western countries think that having your own place and living alone is a good thing. It shows that you’ve made it in life. I’m going to have strongly disagree with that. We are social animals and we need to connect with people. The traditional setting of staying at home until you get married is more ideal for both men and women. Furthermore, traditionally after getting married, children are born pretty soon afterward. Also, grandma’s, grandpa’s, cousins, aunts, sisters are usually around to help support the newly wed couple. Now a days, we have strangers watching our kids because even grandma has to work to make ends meat. Now when you are living alone, it is easy to isolate yourself from others. So it’s easy to feel lonely and bored. Loneliness and boredom are detrimental to your health and well being. This will actually make you sick both physically and emotionally. You will feel more stuck, you will tend to over think and worry. You will feel alone and depressed. It is quite unnatural for us to be disconnected from the rest of society, and we must learn to be closer to our family and friends. The family structure in America is literally falling apart and if we don’t take action it will disintegrate. Read article son loneliness at

I see many people who come to my office who are on anti-depressants. Now in nature we can see that sometimes we have rainy days and sometimes sunny days. Likewise, in life, we can have times when we are more up beat and times when we are more down. Now if I am having issues with my partner, does that mean that I should take anti-depressants or should I try to resolve the issue with my partner. If I’m unhappy with my job, does that mean that I should take anti-depressants or should I look for another job or maybe another career that will make me feel more fulfilled. If I’m having issues with my family, does that mean that I should take anti-depressants or should I sit down and work things out to the best of my ability with my family. My point is that we in America must learn alternative methods of handling stress and unhappiness instead of using medications. Especially when we consider the side effects of many of these drugs. After starting anti-anxiety or anti-depression meds, it can be quite difficult getting off these drugs as the symptoms of withdrawal can at times mimic that of a street drug. This does not even include the many side effects one may experience when actually taking the drug. Food for thought.
