First, we must understand how Birth Control Pills work.  They basically shut down the natural function of your endocrine/hormonal system.  Because Birth Control Pills are comprised of synthetic estrogen and progesterone, it sends a signal to your master pituitary gland not to work to produce those hormones since you already have them.  And then one day, you decide to get off the pill and your body doesn’t want to kick in gear because it’s used to not working; so now you can’t ovulate or have a period.  I see this often in clinic. If this happens, most doctors will send you to an IVF clinic.  It’s great for the big Pharma and Fertility clinics.  They made money all those years when you were taking Birth Control Pills and now they can make even more money off of you to get you pregnant.  Some women can never get their period and for others it can take months or years for their periods to return to normal.  Now this is not the norm, but it does happen and I see it often in the clinic.

So how do we treat this condition.  First, we must boost the hormones in the body with Acupuncture and Chinese Herbs.  Many women will notice increased cervical fluid and cramping as their body’s attempt to ovulate.  This may happen for a few months and then eventually ovulation will occur and a period will come within 3-6 months.  After that, the next period wont take so long to come.  Maybe 2-3 months.  And then your cycles will get shorter and shorter until they become normal and your endocrine system is back functioning normal.  Acupuncture and Chinese Herbs have great success treating this condition.
